Georgia had a Jack Russell growing up and absolutely adored her. She always knew she wanted to get another one.
“I think adoption is so important, but I knew coming by a Jack Russell that needed rehoming or rescuing was going to be hard. Fortunately for me, my boss had heard that a little Jack Russell needed rehoming and so he organised everything…and when I came into work one morning a box was placed in front of me and little Hughie popped out,” said Georgia.
Hughie was comfortable with other dogs of all sizes from the very start, so this made socialisation easy; however, he struggled a lot with separation anxiety.
“This is something we have spent a long time working on. This anxiety can likely be attributed to his rehoming situation,” says Georgia.
Sofia said, “Hughie is an incredibly resilient little man, so he didn’t take long at all to make himself at home and snuggle and play with us!”
Georgia and Sofia say they are so grateful that Hughie’s previous owners put in the effort to find him a new home that was right for him and wishes more people would opt to adopt if they can.
“It’s really nice to know that we were able to take in a dog that needed a home, rather than going to a breeder. It breaks our hearts every day to see how many dogs are in shelters for reasons that could have been controlled; if only owners knew what they were getting into.”
Georgia and Sofia say that with the right education, people would hopefully consider adopting a rescue instead of going to a breeder.
“Shelters are full of animals with plenty of love to go around that desperately need a home,” the co-parents Georgia and Sofia said.
“It’s possible some people may have preconceived ideas in their head that shelter dogs are difficult and were given up for bad behaviour, but that is not often the case. There are a lot of animals that just need to be given a chance to prove how loving and affectionate they can really be!”
